The Rock of Cashel
I have got to say that Barry was extremely helpful throughout my Genealogy Search. I had mentioned to Barry that some of my ancestors might have come from Tipperary and he helped me find a couple of graves that could have been related within the grounds of the Rock of Cashel. The fallen cross behind us is labeled "Hanley", which could be a distant relative on my mom's side, another one we found was "Scanlon".
Kinsale Adventures
Barry decided to bring 26 of his closest friends home to meet his family. And what a welcome it was, we had a lovely tour around the town, dinner at the Famous Fishy Fishy including an audience with the Head Chef Martin Shanahan himself and music at the local pub with Barry and his father.
Your trip to Kinsale could not be complete without visiting Charles Fort. It might be ruins now but in it's day it took on the Williamite War in 1689-1691 and the Irish Civil War centuries later in the 1920s.
Barry sharing history in Kinsale's graveyard. Here lies casualties from the Sinking of the RMS Lusitania.
Our new friend Mary, owner of the Tap Tavern in Kinsale poured Mom her first taste of darker beer. We had to take pictures to commemorate this monumental moment!

I guarantee this will be the one and only picture I get of my mom drinking a beer, but hey when in Ireland. And she said the Smithwicks was tasty, Slainte!

Kissane Sheep Farm
|
Up in the hillsides of Ireland lies the Kissane family sheep farm. We had the pleasure of seeing the dogs in action rounding up the herd and the process of shearing their sheep. There are so many sheep in Ireland they have to "brand" their flock by painting the sheep's short coat after they've been trimmed. Let's Graffiti Sheep!! |
The beautiful gardens at Muckross House, the flowers didn't get the memo it's almost fall.
